People were so in love with the bicycle in the late 1800s that they wrote hundreds and hundreds of songs about how great bicycling was! They used to have comedy shows called "vaudeville" where women would parade around in bloomers and sing songs about bicycles. The idea of women wearing pants was so funny that simply seeing a woman in bloomers was enough to get a laugh! This is the only song from that era that people still remember, and most people only know the chorus. I'm glad that I dug around a little bit and found the charming verses!
